Sun protection
Sun protection is vital
Children's skin is very thin and therefore extremely sensitive. Up until the age of 8 children's skin does not have a sufficient self protection mechanism like that of adults. Even in the case of light redness the skin and immune system of the child suffer irreparable damages. Sun burn as a child also severely increases the danger of skin cancer in later life.
Generally, by the age of 18, skin has already had 50% of its dose of UV radiation for your whole life, as children spend more time than adults outside for sports or play. Especially with water sports children and young people are exposed to UV radiation for longer and more intensely. Sun creams only provide protection for a limited amount of time. The necessary re-application is often neglected.
Also there is growing concern about harmful substances in sun creams. The best protection for children's skin is our new sun protection clothing that is in compliance with UV standard 801. In the online shop you will find overalls, shirts and shorts as well as hats for girls and boys that protect children's skin optimally against UV rays and offer excellent wearing comfort. Not every skin reacts the same way to the sun. A distinction is made between six different types of skin with various self-protection capabilities. However in our lines of latitude there are only four skin types.
Type 1
Skin: extremely sensitive; hair: red or light blond; eyes: blue; other features: freckles and very light nipples. This skin does not tan. The freckles simply multiply. Self -protection only up to 10 minutes.
Type 2
Skin: sensitive; hair: blond; eyes: blue or green; other features: often freckles, moderately brown nipples. Skin only tans slightly. Self-protection time up to 20 minutes.
Type 3
Skin: Normal sensitivity; hair: dark or light brown; eyes: brown or grey; other features: hardly any freckles, well pigmented nipples. The skin is lightly colored even in un-tanned state. This type of skin goes brown relatively quickly and is normal in central Europe. Self- protection time up to 30 minutes.
Type 4
Skin: non-sensitive; hair: mostly dark brown; eyes: brown; other features: no freckles, dark nipples. Tans right away in the sun. This type goes brown relatively quickly, normal in central Europe. Self-protection time up to 40 minutes.
These skin types are only recommendations and rough estimations. Someone with brown eyes can still have extremely sensitive skin and a blond person can have relatively insensitive skin. If in doubt, always allocate to the more sensitive group.

The 10 Most Important Sun Rules:
- Avoid the sun in the middle of the day between 12.00 p.m. and 3 pm.
- Give the skin time to get used to the sun; in the first few days it is better to stay in the shade.
- In the sun always wear sun protective clothing with a UV protection factor (UPF) of at least 30, and always wear a hat.
- Apply sun cream to all uncovered parts of the body. Apply sun cream half an hour before sunbathing to achieve full protection.
- Reapply sun cream several times a day. But warning: reapplying does not extend the protective effect.
- When swimming only use waterproof cream. Reapply the cream after drying of.
- If taking medications be aware of any side effects in the sun. Ask your doctor to be on the safe side.
- Avoid deodorants and perfumes in the sun to prevent pigment irregularities.
- Do not take children into the sun in the first few years, and later only with sun protective clothing and a high light protection factor.
- It is better not to tan skin in a solarium beforehand: The UV radiation of sunlamps is ten times as high as that of normal sunlight and therefore causes wrinkles and connective tissue weakness faster.
